FAQ

What is the best vegetable gardening layout?

It all depends on where you live. You should plant vegetables together if you live in a city. You should plant your vegetables in groups if you live outside of the city. This will ensure maximum yield.

What is the purpose of a planting calendar?

A planting calendar lists the plants that should all be planted at various times during the year. The goal is to maximize growth while minimizing stress for the plant. The last frost date should be used to sow early spring crops, such as spinach, lettuce, and beans. Summer beans, squash, cucumbers and squash are all later spring crops. The fall crops include potatoes and carrots.

Can I plant fruit trees in pots

Yes! Fruit trees can be grown in pots if you're short on space. Ensure your pot has drainage holes so excess moisture won't rot the tree. You should also ensure that the pot is deep sufficient to support the root ball. This will help prevent stress on the tree.

How much light does a tree need?

It depends on which plant it is. Some plants require 12 hours of direct sunshine per day. Others prefer 8 hours in indirect sunlight. Vegetables require at least 10 hours of direct sunlight per 24-hour period.

When to plant flowers

Planting flowers is best done during springtime when temperatures are milder and the soil is moist. If you live somewhere cold, planting flowers should be done before the first frost. The ideal temperature to grow plants indoors is 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

How To

Organic fertilizers for your garden

Organic fertilizers are made with natural substances like compost, manure, seaweed extract and blood meal. Organic fertilizers are made from non-synthetic materials. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. Synthetic fertilizers are dangerous for the environment as well as human health. These fertilizers also require high amounts of energy, water and time to make. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This pollution is both harmful to wildlife as well as humans.

There are many types of organic fertilizers.

* Manure is a product of livestock eating nitrogen-rich food (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is rich in carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium and sulfur. It is extremely porous and holds water well.

* Fish Emulsion- A liquid product that is made from fish oil. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It also contains trace elements, phosphorous and nitrogen.

* Seaweed Extract is a concentrated solution that contains minerals extracted from red algae, brown algae and green algae. It's a great source of vitamins A and C as well as iodine and iron.

* Guano - Excreta from amphibians and seabirds. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as sodium, magnesium, sulfate and chloride.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Mix equal amounts of compost, manure, and/or fish oil to make organic fertilizer. Mix well. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

Apply the fertilizer by spreading it evenly using a tiller or shovel. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. To see new growth, you will need to apply more fertilizer every 2 weeks.
