FAQ

Is there enough space in my backyard to grow a vegetable garden.

If you don’t have a garden yet, you may wonder if there is enough room to start one. The answer is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. You just need to plan. You could make raised beds that are only 6 inches tall. Or you can use containers to build raised beds. Either way, you'll still get plenty of produce.

How do you prepare the soil for a vegetable garden?

It's easy to prepare the soil for a vegetable gardening. First, you should remove all weeds around the area where you want to plant vegetables. After that, add organic material such as composted soil, leaves, grass clips, straw or wood chips. Finally, water well and wait until plants sprout.

Which type of lighting best suits indoor plant growth?

Because they emit less heat than traditional incandescent bulbs, Florescent lights are ideal for indoor plant growth. They provide steady lighting without dimming or flickering. Both regular and compact fluorescent fluorescent bulbs are available. CFLs can use up to 75% more energy than traditional bulbs.

Tomatoes and peppers can be grown together because they prefer similar soil conditions. They work well together as tomatoes need heat to ripen and peppers need lower temperatures for optimal flavor. Start seeds indoors approximately six weeks prior to planting. When the weather is warm, transplant the pepper and tomato plants outside.

Can I grow fruit tree in a pot?

Yes! If space is limited, you can grow fruit trees in pots. Make sure your pot is drained to prevent the tree from getting rotted by excess moisture. Make sure the pot is deep enough for the root ball to be held. This will stop the tree becoming stressed.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers contain chemicals used in industrial processes. These fertilizers are commonly used in agriculture, as they can provide nutrients to plants quickly without the need for complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. These fertilizers also require high amounts of energy, water and time to make. Due to runoff, synthetic fertilizers can pollute both groundwater as well as surface waters. This pollution is detrimental to humans and wildlife alike.

There are many organic fertilizers available:

* Manure is produced when livestock eat nitrogen-rich foods (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is rich for nitrogen, carbon, potassium and magnesium. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It has the ability to dissolve oils, fats and is very similar to soap. It also contains trace elements like phosphorous, Nitrogen, and other elements.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano - excrement from seabirds, bats, reptiles, and amphibians. It contains nitrogen and phosphorous, potassium as well sulfate, salt, chloride, carbon, sodium, magnesium and other minerals.

* Blood Meal, the remains from slaughtered animals. It is rich with protein, making it useful for feeding poultry or other animals. It also contains trace mineral, phosphorus as well as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

To make organic fertilizer, combine equal parts of manure, compost, and/or fish emulsion. Mix thoroughly. If you don't have all three ingredients, you can substitute them one for another. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

Apply the fertilizer to the soil by using a shovel and tiller. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. To see new growth, you will need to apply more fertilizer every 2 weeks.
